How to Meditate
Meditation. When one thinks of this simple task, they might think of it as a waste of time in an increasingly busy world. Personally, asking a few friends around, many did not even comprehend the idea of meditating. After all, How could closing your eyes and putting your mind at peace really be beneficial towards your life? However, it is clear that meditation can give immense benefits and should be practiced.
According to The New York Times, meditation is a simple task. Tara Brach, a meditation teacher, states that meditation simply involves closing your eyes and trying not to let your mind wander. However, the mind wandering is okay as “it’s the natural conditioning of the mind to wander,” according to Brach. Therefore it is okay if one meditates and can’t get a hang of it. As with all skills, people can get better at it over time.
Meditation really comes down to keeping your mind empty, breathing in a slow tempo, and closing your eyes. With some practice, this will become more simple: a routine that many people can strive to achieve.
But with so many things to keep a track of, why should students pursue meditation over other activities? From a practical perspective, meditation helps get rid of these thoughts. From a personal perspective, I can attest to the usefulness of meditation. I found that after a few weeks of meditation, I felt more at peace and worried less. In addition, concentrating became easier and completing tests was more likely without any roadblocks. Even though meditation was a time investment, which I wanted to spend more time on other things, like watching Netflix, It helped make work easier and helped with my worries overall.
With school starting up, KIS students will soon be bombarded by studying for multiple APs, maintaining their grades, and keeping up with multiple exams. With all the stress that students will soon accumulate, it’ll be helpful if they had a reliable way of relieving stress. Luckily, if students take a few minutes of their day to meditate, it may alleviate much of their stress.
